This month’s installment of the Farm to MSU series presents MSU’s partner, Ruhlig Farms. The Farm to MSU program partners with local farmers and vendors who appreciate quality and commitment as much as MSU does.
Ruhlig Farms was started in Carleton, Mich. in 1970 by David and Rosanne Ruhlig. Both came from dedicated farming families so the decision to start their own operation was easy. The business started with only 40 acres but has since expanded to more than 1,000 acres. At Ruhlig, growing and harvesting a diverse and home-grown selection of produce is a source of pride. They grow everything from peppers and melons to lettuce and greens. They also hand-pick and package their products, assuring that they are all delivered at peak freshness.
Ruhlig has become a staple in the Michigan fresh produce market, and they only plan to continue expanding their business and delivering outstanding products and services to their customers. This dedication and local focus makes Ruhlig Farms a valued partner of MSU’s department of Culinary Services. For more information about their operation, visit www.ruhligfarmsandgardens.com.
